2nd International Conference "People with Disabilities and Mass Media" 18-19 June 2007
The Secretariat General of Communication - Secretariat General of Information, on the initiative of Minister of State Theodoros Roussopoulos, has organised for the second year in a row the 2nd International Conference "People with disabilities and Mass Media".
The Conference took place on 18-19 June 2007, at the press centre of the SGC-SGI building (Frangoudi 11 & Al. Pantou, Kallithea).
You can find more information about the conference in the programme, proceedings and photos pages.
The media, often labeled “Mass Media”, may at times operate in a misleading manner. If we believe that media operators aspire to reach the last and most remote recipient, these operators should find the most appropriate means of communication by which to do so. They should use a specific and unique language. They should not be Mass Media.
Not all news pertains to each and every one of us, even when it supposedly addresses the general population.
Not all cultural products are consumed by us all, although they may form part of the basic core of mankind’s cultural creativity.
When it comes to entertainment, we all have individual needs. We are all equal, but we are not identical.
The agenda of our conference revolves around these ideas. Our goal is to take one further step and to build on last year’s accomplishments. We are moving forward with your full cooperation, with your constructive criticism and with your active participation.
The Second International Conference “People with Disabilities and Mass Media” is a reality. Our commitments are already showing tangible results. The enterprise undertaken is taking root and is here to stay. We are making a strong, sustained and sincere effort to meet our responsibilities toward People with Disabilities, within the framework of our jurisdiction. We look to you to evaluate our efforts.
