Emotion Pictures Cinema Workshop - God in the Horizon

One of the basic aims of Emotion Pictures is to give children with disability the opportunity of getting to know more about the world of cinema and gaining first-hand knowledge of the documentary film as a means of expressing their experiences and emotions.

Eleven (11) pupils from the Special Senior High School at Ilion, took part in a cinema workshop aimed at creating a documentary and familiarizing them with the cinema. The workshop was run by film director Lena Voudouri, documentary-maker and teacher-adviser in the LET’S GO TO THE MOVIES program (ΠΑΜΕ ΣΙΝΕΜΑ)*, in collaboration with distinguished Greek cinematography professionals, such as director of photography Stamatis Yannoulis, sound engineer Yorgos Papayorgiou and film editor Yannis Tstisopoulos.

Over the course of four (4) months, the pupils attended weekly two-hour lectures relating to documentaries, as well as film screenings. They were introduced to all the stages in the production of a documentary (scenario, camera-lighting, sound) and enthusiastically created the film “God on the Horizon”. Central idea for the scenario, which was written by the pupils themselves, was conceived by their talented schoolmate Alexandros Damoulianos. Excerpts from his poems are included in the film, which presents portraits of the children through the personal eye of their friends. The film “God on the Horizon” will be screened during the closing ceremony of the Emotion Pictures Festival.

*LET’S GO TO THE MOVIES  (ΠΑΜΕ ΣΙΝΕΜΑ) was a collaborative program between the Ministry of National Education and Religions and the Thessaloniki Film Festival, aimed at creating films in various schools by the pupils themselves. It was warmly received by schoolchildren all over Greece and the collaboration with them was particularly productive.
